Community

It is estimated that one in 10 Canadians (approximately 2 million people) from all age, ethnic, and social groups, are affected by learning disabilities. One of the primary goals of the LDRC is to bring together the four major groups that make up the learning disabilities community. These groups consist of individuals with learning disabilities (and their families), community organizations, educational institutions, and research centres.

The LDRC will initiate an active communication loop between members of these four groups with the goal of developing relationships that are beneficial to all individuals. LDRC members may communicate in "real time" with others using the site, bringing together a virtual community of groups across the nation who study, work or live with special needs learners, or are affected themselves by a learning disability.

Features of the LDRC Community include:

  • A Who's On tool from which members can view profiles, page members currently online, or send private messages to another member.
  • An Events Calendar where members can post, review, search and personalize a list of community events related to learning disabilities.
  • A large collection of LD-related Web sites.
