How To

How to use the Chat:

Login Instructions:

To access a chat room, first enter a name in the text field provided. (Note: Your chat name does not have to be identical to your LDRC member login name.) Then select "Enter Chat". For those using text-only browsers, or using a browser that does not support Java, select the "Telnet based text chat" link. This link will open your system's default Telnet application, and connect to the chat server. If your login name is identical to another member currently in the chat room, each name will be assigned a number as in the following example: [0] Dave, [1] Dave.

Chat rooms are useful for creating spontaneous discussions of professional or personal interest irrespective of each member's geographic location. You have the option of participating in a general discussion or directing a private message to a specific individual. You can also create a private channel to discuss a particular topic and invite others to join you there.

Upon entering a chat, type in .help (be sure to include the period before help) for a list of commands used to communicate with other members in a chat room. Also see the list of commands below the chat applet, for additional functions.
