Grammaire française

 - Enter Course

Theory Of Knowledge

 - Enter Course

The Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is a course that explores the origins, validity and value of the various forms of knowledge - or ways of knowing. The course is central to the educational philosophy of the International Baccalaureate Program in challenging students to reflect critically on diverse ways of knowing and areas of knowledge. The content is the various subject areas of a student's IB/high school education as well as personal beliefs acquired in or out of school. The process of the course is critical reflection on what a student claims to know and believe and what is professed as knowledge by others. The goals of the course are to gain a critical understanding of truth and knowledge in science, art, history, etc. Central to the course are many fundamental questions. The most central of these is "How do we know that a given assertion is true, or a given judgement is well grounded?". Questions are the very essence of TOK, both ageless questions on which thinkers have been reflecting for centuries, and new ones which are posed by contemporary life.
